Bouncer Turned DJ

On January 13th, 1996, Xavier (known then as Mike) took the helm for his inaugural show: a wedding. Prior to this, he spent six months honing his craft under the tutelage of a resident DJ at Uptown/Downtown in Bowling Green, Ohio. Quickly establishing himself, Xavier secured several weekly gigs and soon became the resident DJ at multiple nightclubs across Northwest Ohio.

As his reputation soared, Xavier expanded his repertoire, taking on weddings and private events on weekends. He also delved into performance art, directing, and choreography, notably taking on roles for the Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Cla-Zel in BG and managing events in the Detroit, Michigan area.

The Founder of IGUN & Wednesday BG

In the autumn of 1998, Xavier embarked on a transformative journey into the nightlife scene. As fate would have it, Xavier was approached by Gargoyles, a local nightclub competing with his former residency, Uptown/Downtown. They proposed an alternative night on Tuesdays, envisioning a unique space for underground music enthusiasts. Despite initial enthusiasm, the venture faced challenges and ultimately fizzled out.

However, in April 1999, Uptown/Downtown extended a second chance to Xavier, recognizing his potential to cultivate a distinct nightlife experience. On April 21st, 1999, IGUN (Industrial Gothic Underground Night) emerged. It was during this pivotal time at Uptown/Downtown that Xavier crossed paths with Joshua Burnett, who bestowed upon him the moniker “The Gothfather,” a title that would come to define his legacy in the industry. Marked by Xavier’s visionary leadership as The Gothfather, IGUN heralded the inception of a revolutionary movement. With the addition of DJ Darks Choir by year’s end, the Wednesday night scene blossomed into a cultural phenomenon, capturing the hearts of locals and travelers alike.

Under Xavier’s guidance, IGUN served as a breeding ground for talent, nurturing a new generation of DJs and performers. Some stayed to shape the legacy of the night, while others ventured forth to explore new horizons. In 2009, as the scene evolved and diversified, IGUN underwent a transformative rebranding, emerging as iNation under the adept stewardship of Darks Choir and DJ Audioflesh.

Today, with a rich history spanning over two decades, iNation remains a beacon of creativity and community, celebrating the vibrant tapestry of underground culture and music, led by The Gothfather himself, Xavier Carrigan. And on May 5th, 2024, we invite you to join us in celebrating the 25th anniversary of IGUN/iNation’s creation.
